Though there are clear rules of phonics & language constructions in English, there are also those bewildering ‘exceptions to the rule’. They do prove the rule, but still demand additional work & rote reinforcement at the primary level. Later on with etymology we find the sense & historical background for those exceptions coming into English from this language or that, this cultural tendency or that…..but there’s no need or benefit for bogging down students with that until they’re of an age to comprehend it. Flashcards are useful & much reading, but these little worksheets with the additional layer of handwriting physically & mentally reinforcing the words aids children immensely. Glad to find them.
